The final lap of the 1961 German GP was a furious one for Wolfgang von Trips and Phil Hill. Both were driving the ‘Sharknose’ Ferrari 156 and both wanted to benefit from each other’s slipstream, slowing down to 70kph in the process. Von Trips gave the car full throttle - a staggering 9800rpm - but spun his machine in the process after hitting a patch of water. Hill, in the meantime, was experiencing exactly the same fate resulting in a synchronised spin of Sharknose Ferraris. It must have been quite a sight.
