Laurel Bank
In the early days of the Isle of Man TT motorcycle cylinder heads and barrels were constructed from cast iron and relied on air-cooling. Inevitably, after the sharp as-cent through Glen Helen engines would often overheat but the Rex motorcycle company had a solution. Rex persuaded a lady living in a cottage near Laurel Bank to leave a pale of water outside for Rex riders to pour over their engines. This was a water-cooled engine in its crudest form.
