The 1952 German GP was one of Italian domination with an all-Ferrari podium. But the marque’s blanket victory was not without drama - right up to this section, near the finish line. Alberto Ascari beat his team mate Nino Farina on the finishing straight and raced down the last straight to victory, despite having badly-damaged his rear wheel at the Karussell. Meanwhile, Piero Taruffi’s Ferrari’s back wheels had turned inwards, leaving the Italian crawling across the line to a fourth place.
