The story:

Starting at sea level, the Isle of Man TT course rises to 1,385ft at Brandywell, the highest point on the Mountain Course, with gradients of up to 14% in places, making every lap a real test of bike and rider. The course has changed over time. The original 1907 St Johns course ran along the coast near Peel, before the Mountain Course was introduced in 1911, taking in the Snaefell section that still defines the TT today. For a few years between 1954 and 1959, organisers used the Clypse Course. That caused problems for the then-unknown Japanese Honda team on their 1959 debut: after days of studying the Mountain Course using Geoff Dukes guide, they arrived to find they had been preparing for the wrong course entirely.
