Joe Cocker’s Birds is a limited print of 30 editions from Rachael Clegg’s Muscle Shoals series in which every single image illustrates an event from the history of rock and roll. All shots were taken at the specific locations as to where an historical event occurred across Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Sheffield, Alabama. This small pocket of Alabama is home to some of the most iconic music recording studios in the world, where some of the biggest hits in music history were recorded.

The story:

In 1978 Joe Cocker recorded his Luxury You Can Afford at Muscle Shoals, Alabama during a period when Cocker was experimenting with a cocktail of substances. After the sessions Cocker would stay at a local musician friend’s house whose neighbours had a prized aviary in their garden. This arrangement worked reasonably well, until one night - high on Lord knows what - Cocker got hold of his friend’s shotgun in the middle of the night and used the birds as target practice. The neighbours were not happy. (Note: no birds were harmed in this creation of this shoot).
